Hodgemoor Trec 18 April 2022 results page

The results of the Hodgemoor Trec today show that any competent rider on a willing and quiet horse can excel… and we all enjoyed watching them doing the obstacles before about half the competitors departed for a couple of hours orienteering in the woods.

The field was divided into 4 classes…

Class 1 was for Beginners doing just two phases, the Obstacles and Control of Gaits. Winner was Monique Millington on Laika, an experienced rider trying Trec for the first time. Her Obstacles (she was 2nd) and her Control of Paces (3rd) were so good that she was placed first in those two phases, better than any rider in any class. Sheila Grimshaw and Kayleigh Dear made up the podium.

Class 2, Open, was for riders who have done Trec before, those choosing to do just two phases, Obstacles and Control of Gaits. Georgina Wright on her regular favorite horse John won from Francesca Jones and Caroline King.

Class 3 was for beginners doing all three phases. The winner was Sara Caley on Jack by just one point from Sienna Chambers with Olivia Warner close behind. All three scored better than any of the class 4 open riders.

Class 4, Open, was our blue riband class for riders who have done Trec before and chose to do all three phases. Alison Cheetham won from Katherine Wall and Vicki Baber.

Some comments on the individual Phases… Katherine Wall was the best round the obastacles scoring 140 points out of 150 available, remarkable. Well done. Monique Millington was 2nd and Alison Cheetham 3rd. Control of Paces? Vicki Baber was best with 60 points out of 60! Can’t do better than that. Francesca Jones was 2nd and Monique 3rd. In the Phase 3 Orineteering, four riders found all the clues and were within 10% of the target time and would have scored 240 out of 240 but for 10% deductions for riding in pairs rather than solo. They were Sara Caley, Sienna Chambers, Olivia Warner and Laura Newton. Well done.

Dressage at Austens 11 April 2022 – results and series standings

Hodgemoor Winter Dressage event at Austens, Twitchells Lane, Jordans, on Sunday 11th April 2022.
I stole this pic off Georgie’s Facebook, thanks! Olivia Warner, Sienna Chambers, Georgie Anne Gammage and Sara Caley (pictured here at Austens) hacked from Dibden Hill which is off Narcot Lane between St Giles and St Peter.

We had 16 riders for the winter dressage on Sunday, nice competition weather. Those that hacked from other yards were pleased to see “SLOW – Horse Event Today” signs down Twitchells Lane and cars did seem to be going quite considerately. Everyone remained very jolly and the riding standards were high. Teenager Eleni Antoniou on Impossivel was unbeatable in Intro Class A with 73.5%, well done. Claire James won class B. In Prelim another teenager Sienna Chambers won Section A and Monique Millington Section B for experienced riders. In Novice, it was a stitch-up for the Bicknells, the only entrants, with Marcus pipping Susie for the first time. Thank you so much to Sacha Hamilton and her band of helpers for organising and for judging, to Jane Braithwaite for writing and to Kevin Malyon for scoring. The updated series points table, with one event to go, is also posted below

Sacha Hamilton at workThe image on the right is of Sacha Hamilton in competition, but not in the Hodgemoor event! She was the judge for us.

I have updated the series standings and you can see them at here.   Percentage marks from each of the Winter Dressage events are averaged (plus a % point to encourage participation at many of the 7 events) to give a series champion in each class and section. In the Intro Walk-Trot class, teenager Eleni Antoniou has jumped into the lead of Section A thanks to her excellent marks at Austens, and Sheila Grimshaw into third. Charlotte Bodega is bumped into second. Similarly in the Section B for experienced riders Nicky West has been toppled by Claire James who hacked over an hour each way to come and compete. In Prelim Charlotte Bodega on Measteg Nancy keeps her place at the top of the less experienced leader board Section A, from Mia Okuyama and Sadie Braybrook, while Georgie Gammage on Fred jumps into the lead of Section B ahead of Delia Gomez Dominguez and Jaimi Roehrig. In the Novice class, Lucy Butler still leads Nozomi Okuyama and Kim Dudko in the less-experienced riders Section A while in the Open section B there is no change; Diana Barham on Mole is in the lead from Delia Gomez Dominguez and Charlotte Fleming. One event to come in this series.

The series trophies and sponsor’s prizes will be awarded early on the evening of the Hodgemoor 21st birthday party on 9th July.

Just one more winter dressage event now,
Sunday 24th April at Widmer Livery Stables, Rawlings Lane, Seer Green.

Dressage results Highclere 27 March 2022

Hodgemoor Winter Dressage event at Highclere, Seer Green, on Sunday 27th March 2022.
We had a full entry list for the winter dressage this morning, and wasn’t it wintery… chiller than earlier in the week and overcast. Everyone remained very jolly and the riding standards were high. Thank you so much to Kevin Malyon and his band of helpers for organising, to Sacha Hamilton for judging and to Jane Braithwaite for writing. Kevin also did a fine job of scoring and Diana Bunyan of marshaling.  The updated series points table will be posted later today.

I had a warm chat with Jacqui Roehrig, the doyenne of Oldefields Equestrian Centre in Seer Green where the penultimate winter dressage was held. She likes the series of local dressage events because it enhances our equestrian community in the local area, especially because of the requirement to hack to the events. She hopes it will continue next year. This is just the sort of feedback which makes the effort worthwhile, so thank you Jacqui.       Marcus.

I have updated the series standings and you can see them at hodgemoor_winter_dressage_results_cumulative_for_publication.   Percentage marks from each of the Winter Dressage events are averaged (plus a % point to encourage participation at many of the 7 events) to give a series champion in each class and section. In the Intro Walk-Trot class, Charlotte Bodega still leads the less experienced riders’ standings and Nicky West the open section. In Prelim Charlotte Bodega on Measteg Nancy has taken over at the top of the less experienced leader board, from Mia Okuyama and Sadie Braybrook, while Delia Gomez Dominguez on Captain is now ahead of Jaimi Roehrig on Chalky (she has more than one horse). In Novice Lucy Butler still leads Nozomi Okuyama in the less-experienced riders while in the Open section today’s single event by Diana Barham on Mole is enough to put her in the lead from Delia Gomez Dominguez and Charlotte Fleming. Two events to come in this series.

Just two more winter dressage events now,
Sunday 10th April at Austens Farm and
Sunday 24th April at Widmer Equestrian.

Hodgemoor Le Trec Easter Monday 18 April, 2022

Hodgemoor Le Trec Easter Monday 18 April, 2022

Hodgemoor Riding Association: Le Trec

Homefarm Orchard, Kirby Close, Chalfont St Giles HP8
Easter Monday 18 April, 2022. 10am to 1 pm

Come and enjoy yourself at Le Trec, the competition which demands a calm horse and skillful handling. Competitors enter singly but can go round with a friend. The Hodgemoor Trec, which has been running since 2009 on the same site on the Bicknells’ fields between the White Hart in St Giles and Hodgemoor Woods, is warmly informal and so is an ideal opportunity for beginners to have a go.  You can do the first two phases (obstacles and the control of gaits) or all three (those plus the orienteering which usually takes you round a course in the woods and small lanes of an hour to an hour-and-a-half). You can also compete as a beginner or “open” and there are rosettes for the leading placings in both. The obstacle course will be emailed to entrants so they can learn the route which saves time on the day. Entries close Wednesday 13 April.

Funds raised from the event go to maintaining the horse trails in the woods and around Hodgemoor. Our website is at www.hodgemoor.org.uk

Hodgemoor Winter Dressage, Highclere 27 March 2022

Hodgemoor Winter Dressage, Highclere 27 March 2022

We look forward to welcoming a full field of dressage competitors at Highclere this Sunday. Here are the start times for each rider, linked below.

MOST IMPORTANT! Don’t forget that the clocks go forward at 1 am Sunday morning: so if you forget you will miss your dressage time!

There is no separate warm-up arena at Highclere and we have a full entry list, 30 riders. There will just be a minute or so warm-up in the competition arena for your mount to get used to it. If you want a proper warm-up, we suggest doing it in your arena before you hack over. We know many of you are hacking together, so we hope to keep to the schedule, so you don’t have to wait too long.
